MITI is the highest regulating agency under the federal government of Malaysia. It is involved in managing and regulating the international trade and industry for the country. Basically, MITI oversees the development of this economic sector where it is involved in many areas of work. This includes regulations, policies, initiatives, funding and such.

Under MITI, there are many sectors that are related which include international trade, SMEs, the halal industry, steel, automotive and others which are managed by several agencies under the ministry.

MIDA

The Malaysian Investment Development Authority or MIDA plays an important role in facilitating the industrial development of Malaysia. An agency under MITI, MIDA helps to open new markets for investors into the country. This is done via initiatives where MIDA helps businesses to grow their market reach, mainly in the manufacturing and services sectors. MIDA provides information to potential investors on investment opportunities, educational and awareness campaigns as well as other incentives by bridging companies, networking events and others.

MATRADE

MATRADE is the National Trade Agency of Malaysia. It is among the most prominent agencies in the country under the purview of MITI. MATRADE is responsible in growing the local industries through implementation of programmes and policies. Besides that, it is involved in regulating the industries where it helps Malaysian businesses to export their products and services and in promoting Malaysian exports to other countries. This is done through a national intention to position Malaysia as a competitive trading country in the world.

SME CORP

SME Corp is under the purview of MITI. It is the agency involved in managing and growing of the SMEs (Small and Medium Enterprises) industry of Malaysia. The agency plays an important role where it coordinates and implements programmes for the development of this sector by working closely with other ministries and agencies. Besides that, it is the secretariat to the NSDC or National SME Development Council while providing related services and other support for companies in this category.

Malaysia Productivity Corporation

MPC plays a vital role in enhancing productivity of the country. It is one of the many agencies under the purview of MITI where its role, among others include being the one-stop centre for reference point of productivity indices. Besides that, MPC is involved in growing local experts in terms of productivity, quality and entrepreneurship, which are among the major focus areas. Other roles that MPC undertakes include training, education, consultancy and related issues pertaining to quality and productivity of the country.

MIDF

MIDF was established in 1960. The idea was to have an agency involved in ensuring financing services for SMEs (Small and Medium Enterprises) in the manufacturing industries in order to enhance the development of the industrial sector of Malaysia. It has since underwent several changes throughout the years including mergers and acquisitions with major agencies like MIDF Amanah Investment Bank Berhad. Today, MIDF under the purview of MITI continues to provide financial services in areas like asset management, investment banking and development finance.

Small Medium Enterprise Development Bank Malaysia Berhad (SME Bank)

As the name implies, SME Bank is solely dedicated for the SME sector of Malaysia. It is under the purview of MITI where it functions as a one-stop financing and business development platform for SME businesses across the country. SME Bank helps to accelerate the process of financing for SMEs that are eligible where it works under the classification guidelines of the National SME Development Council where SME Bank plays an important role to help grow the local industries and its related sectors.

MAI (Malaysia Automotive Institute)

The MAI or Malaysia Automotive Institute was established to facilitate the growth of the local automotive market. As Malaysia started its industrialization programme more than 30 years ago, its automotive industry has since grown by leaps and bounds. MAI plays a vital role in the development of this sector where it is the main driver for the automotive economy. Among the roles that MAI plays include market research, policy input, establishing of efforts to grow the market and many others.

HDC (Halal Development Corporation)

The HDC is the sole agency responsible for the development and progressing of Malaysia as a Global Halal Hub. It is one of the agencies under MITI where HDC establishes programmes and events that are intended to grow the Halal market. This includes maintaining of a Halal Exchange Directory and the management of the Halal Park. Besides that, HDC is involved in other areas like regulation, carrying out of audits and certification, facilitating businesses in obtaining recognition and other awareness campaigns.

Malaysia Steel Institute (MSI)

The MSI is an agency under MITI which is responsible in developing and growing of the iron and steel sector of Malaysia. It plays an integral role in providing all types of advisory services in developing this sector that includes economic, scientific and technological knowledge. Besides that, MSI helps to promote and grow the local sector via efforts like campaigns while improving standards and regulations, guidelines and other related issues that could improve the development of businesses, stakeholders and other parties.
